Rev. Dorothy Hicks

Rev. Dr. Doris L. Hicks is a Practical Theologian and Pastor at Wesley Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 1501 Double Bridge Road in Batesburg-Leesville, SC.

Rev Dr. Hicks enjoys the theater, reading, music, dancing, walking, sports and playing childhood games such as jacks and chess. Dr. Hicks also enjoys writing! She has published two children’s books. She is a Life member of the National Council of Negro Women’s (NCNW), the NAACP and she is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

She is noted for her afro-centric perspective, a winning smile, and her passion to impact the marginalized, the silent and the oppressed. She mentors at-risk youth, young adults and women who are called to the preaching ministry.

 

Rev. Dr. Hicks serves the church and community in the following ways:

  • Director of the Commission on Social Justice and Human Concerns for the Charleston/Columbia District and the Carolina Region of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

  • Liaison to the Pan Methodist Campaign for Children in Poverty, a Board member of the South Carolina Christian Action Council, and Chair of the Racial Reconciliation Committee.

  • Chairperson of the Statewide Advisor Committee of Holdout the Lifeline: A Mission to Families in Columbia, SC.

  • An Instructor of Homiletics at the Institute for Practical Theology. She is a dynamic facilitator of workshops, conferences, and seminars!

  • She is a valued member of the Booker Washington Heights Community Alliance and the Voter Registration Coalition.

  • She is the proud recipient of many honors, awards and recommendation to include Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities, The National Scholars Honor Society, Theta Phi, and Distinguished Women in the area of Religion. She was also recognized as a Phenomenal Woman by Benedict College!
